Chicken pox is a contagious disease which usually affects children between the age of three to four years. The older the child the more severe is the attack.
Symptoms of chicken pox are:
- Lower grade fever, a mild headache and feeling of weakness.
- Appearance of rashes on the skin the first day and then formation of tiny red spots mostly on the upper body and the chest. In some cases the rashes and spots can also appear on the face. These spots turn into blisters and finally become pustules and form scabs.
- These pustules come in succession while some dry and fall off the others are being formed.
- The duration for this disease can vary from ten to twenty-one days but mostly last for fourteen to seventeen days.
Causes of chicken pox are:
- Virus.
- Serious conditions such as shingles or herpes zoster that affects adults.
- Chicken pox is mainly caused due to childhood fever that is a result of wrong feeding of children the decreases the defense mechanism of the body.
Home remedies to cure chicken pox are:
- Brown vinegar is very helpful to cure chicken pox. Half cup of brown vinegar mixed in a bath of warm water will help relieve the skin irritation.
- Two cup of oat meals cooked in two liters of water for fifteen minutes and put in to a cotton cloth bag and tied around the top and allowed to float in a tub of warm water until the water becomes turbid can also help relieve the itching on the skin.
- Green pea water is also useful to relieve skin irritation. The water in which the green pea is cooked can also be used for bath.
- Baking soda can also relieve itching of chicken pox. Baking soda mixed in a glass of water and sponged over the child’s body can prevent the child from scratching the eruptions.
- Vitamin E oil is also valuable for chicken pox. This oil helps heal the chicken pox and will fade the marks away.
- Honey also applied externally on the chicken pox has a healing effect.
- Carrot and coriander soup is beneficial for the treatment of chicken pox and should be taken only daily.
- Herbal Tea also helps treat chicken pox. The herbal tea prepared of chamomile, basil, marigold and lemon balm with a little cinnamon, honey and lemon should be taken several times daily.
Diet for chicken pox includes:
- Consumption of raw fruit and vegetable juices especially lemon juice is very beneficial.
- An all fruit balanced diet can all be very helpful to cure chicken pox.
A small warm-water enema should be conducted daily to clean the bowels. The patient should be kept in a well ventilated room with very dim light as the eyes become quite very with the attack of the chicken pox. Hence, it is recommended that the eyes of the patients should be shaded to certain extend to avoid strain. Warm water bath with neem can also help relieve the itching. Children should be stopped from scratching the blisters as these will only worsen the condition. Mud pack can also be applied on the stomach and the chest area repeatedly, this is also beneficial to cure the disease.
