Freckles are flat, round, dark colored spots that range from about 2mm to 4mm in size. Pigment precipitation in one particular place is considered be the cause of freckles. Freckles are likely to be inherited it if runs in your family. Freckles appear more prominent during or after exposure to sunlight since they are sensitive to the UV rays of sunlight.
Types of Freckles
Ephelides – Flat red or light-brown spots that typically appear during the summer months and fade away in the winter.
Lentigines – Small tan, brown or black spot that is darker than an ephelide. This does not fade in winter.
Fair skinned have less melanin content, hence exposure to sunlight causes these spots to appear.
Hormonal problem like estrogen imbalance could over-stimulate pigment producing cells causing them to generate more color when exposed to sunlight.
Natural Remedies for Freckles
Apply sour cream on your face and don’t rinse off completely; gently wipe off with a soft tissue and apply moisturizer
Apply lemon juice with your fingers on the affected area.
Use fruit and vegetable masks such as those made with apricots, strawberries, cucumbers and red currant.
Wash your face with sour milk.
Heat honey slightly and stir in a little quantity of wheat germ and apply to face, tap face gently with your fingers. Wash honey off with warm water then rinse with cool water.
Dab Horseradish juice or horseradish vinegar, or oatmeal
Apply parsley juice mixed with equal amounts of lemon juice, orange juice, and red currant juice under your favorite cream.
Apply odorless castor oil or vitamin E at night before going to bed.
Apply mixture of sugar dissolved in the juice of one lemon.
Grind yellow mustard in milk and apply to the face during the night. Wash your face the next morning.
Slice a red onion in half and rub on the spots twice daily.
Apply buttermilk on freckles.
Grind equal quantity of turmeric and sesame seeds and apply to the face.
Make a hole in the rind of a watermelon and introduce some grains of rice in it. Grind the rice in to paste after a week apply on the face.
Mash 1/4 cup of unripe currants and mix with 1 tbsp. of unpasteurized honey. Put on freckles and leave on for half an hour. Rinse off with warm water and dab on diluted fresh lemon juice.
Diet
- Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and whole grains for the vitamins A, B complex and C.
- Vitamin B5 found in milk, eggs, cabbage, wheat germ and nutritional yeast helps prevent dry skin.
- Intake of cold-pressed vegetable oils such as flax seed
- Increase intake of foods rich in vitamin C like apples, green onions, black and red currant, and rosehip tea.
